It was a holiday weekend, and naturally, Dan and Liz had both traveled home to central PA to be with their families. The night before Easter (April 23, 2011) Liz had arranged to go to the Turbotville Hotel with two of her best friends (and bridesmaids), Jillette and Emily, to have some drinks and catch up-something she did almost every time she came home. Jillette had texted Emily and Liz to make sure they didn’t mind that she would be bringing along her boyfriend (now husband) , his brother, and his friend (Dan). They said they didn’t mind…after all, it could use some new faces and it was a public place. When everyone arrived, they all gathered at a table and started chatting amongst one another and engaged in a game of cards. Jillette had been hinting in Liz’s ear that Dan was interested in her and wanted her phone number. Liz didn’t believe her and shrugged it off, as she hadn’t even talked to Dan except for when they were introduced. Everyone except Emily and Liz ended the party early because they just “had” to go back to Millville. Shortly after they were gone, Liz received a text from a strange number…it was Dan. They texted each other nonstop and arranged to have their first date only a few days later–where Dan drove from Boyertown to Etown where Liz lived (an hour away from each other) to go out for dinner at one of Liz’s favorite places. They hit it off so well, and the rest is history.
Dan and Liz were going on a cruise to Bermuda with Liz’s immediate family for her parents’ 35th wedding anniversary celebration and were leaving Saturday, April 26. The Friday night before (April 25) , Liz and Dan had made plans to kick off vacation by going to Sly Fox Brewery, one of their favorite restaurants and where they had their first date. It had been raining and Dan texted Liz to make sure she was ready so she could “help bring things in from the car.” She was waiting for him to come home when all of a sudden the door bell started ringing obnoxiously. She didn’t think anything of it, since this was something Dan did on a daily and regular basis when he got home from work. (Liz is always home before him so he rings the doorbell to let her know he’s home and waits for her to answer the door). Even though the door was unlocked, he wouldn’t stop ringing the doorbell. When Liz finally opened the door, Dan was down on one knee and proposed and Liz of course said yes through many happy and excited tears. They then got to celebrate on a cruise in Bermuda with Liz’s family and had an unforgettable time.
