Tara Beck, of Selinsgrove, and Ryan McGuire, of Selinsgrove, were wed in a rustic, vintage affair.
Tara was working at BJ’s Steak and Rib House in Selinsgrove and Ryan was there with his fellow track coaches. Tara’s co-worker, Tammy, decided to play matchmaker and insisted on introducing them because they were both “fabulous.” (Tammy knew Ryan because her kids were in his Kindergarten class) She stopped Ryan in the hallway on his way to the bathroom, introduced them and walked away to leave them awkwardly standing there looking at each other. Neither of them were really looking to meet anyone at the time, but of course, they were destined to be together. Tara became curious of him and looked him up on Facebook; she initiated the first conversation via Facebook. Ryan finally asked for Tara’s digits and called one night to talk on the phone for 3 hours. He then initiated the first date and the rest was history!
The Proposal: Tara planned a weekend stay at the Inn at White Oak, in Gettysburg, as a birthday present for Ryan. On Saturday afternoon they decided to take a stroll through the woods to the pool house that overlooked the snow-covered ponds and trees. They went for a swim, and then sat by the fireplace in the pool house. He had secretly stuffed a wrapped shoebox in his backpack, so he brought it over to Tara to open. (She was surprised because this trip was HIS birthday present; she didn’t expect to get anything!) She opened the gift, a new pair of running shoes, and pulled out one of the shoes, admiring the color and style….she kept going on and on about how much she loved the shoes. Ryan then pulled the “Sneak Knee” and kneeled down to grab the other shoe, which had the ring tied to the laces! He said “I’m glad you like them…but what about the other shoe?” as he held the shoe with the ring up to her….Tara starting crying and had to have Ryan assure her that this was real.
Tara Beck & Ryan McGuire were wed on June 6, 2015 in a rustic vintage style affair. Their big day was also referred to as the “Race to the Altar” to celebrate their love of running.
